Adding large amounts of external memory is now economically viable given the availability of low-cost high density Flash memory cards. Using an SD, MMC or CF card is an excellent way of providing gigabytes of data memory for a wide variety of applications. These applications include, but are not limited to:

• Data logging of sensors and transducers over long periods of time
• Storing large look-up or calibration tables
• Storing multiple versions of firmware or configurations
• Sharing data between embedded systems and PCs
