Xilinx® Virtex™-II Pro Evaluation Kit

The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro Evaluation Kit provides a complete development platform for designing and verifying applications based on the Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FPGA family. The kit has extreme flexibility and enables designers to implement embedded processor-based applications that use IP cores and customized modules. With its integrated PowerPC™ 405 processor and powerful RocketIO™ Multi-Gigabit Transceivers (MGT), the Virtex-II Pro FPGA makes it possible to develop flexible, high-speed serial transceiver applications.

 

The kit bundles the Xilinx Embedded Development Kit (EDK) with an advanced Virtex-II Pro hardware platform, power supply, cables, and reference designs. Xilinx ISE software and a JTAG cable are also required and available as kit options. The EDK includes the MicroBlaze processor core and peripheral IP that supports the PowerPC and MicroBlaze, GNU-based software tools, and system configuration tools. The GNU-based development tools are composed of a C compiler, assembler, linker, and debugger. The Virtex-II Pro FF672 system board is available with the XC2VP7 Virtex-II Pro device (XC2VP7-6FF672ES). The XC2VP7 FPGA contain a single PowerPC processor and four RocketIO transceivers that support data transfer rates up to 3.125 Gbps per port. The four additional RocketIOs within the XC2VP7 are not connected. A System ACE™ interface gives software designers the ability to run real-time operating systems (RTOS) from removable CompactFlash cards. The system board includes an 8M x 32 SDRAM memory, four clock sources, a RS-232 port, and additional user support circuits. The board also supports the Avnet Electronics Marketing P160 expansion module standard, allowing application specific expansion modules to be easily added.

 

The Virtex-II Pro Platform FPGA family has the advanced features needed to fit the most demanding, high performance applications. The Xilinx Virtex-II Pro FF672 Evaluation Kit provides an excellent platform to explore these features so products can quickly and effectively meet time-to-market requirements.
