FalconEye Reference Platform for Brushless Motors
The FalconEye reference design platform was developed in collaboration between Avago Technologies, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics. The modular construction of the FalconEye Board with PFC (power factor correction) is used for the electronically and/or regulation of brushless synchronous and asynchronous motors. FalconEye from EBV offers developers enormous potential, ranging from huge energy savings to high-precision control options and significant improvements in EMI behavior. At the present FalconEye is optimally suited to controlling brushless direct current motors (BLDCs). However, the board can also be easily converted to control alternating current motors (BLACs), switched reluctance motors (SR) and induction motors (IM). Hardware
Together with the Cologne University of Applied Science, EBV developed in conjunction with franchise partner Avago Technologies, Fairchild Semiconductor, Freescale Semiconductor and STMicroelectronics a modular board for Brushless Motors. The board is equipped with all electronics to control the included brushless direct current (BLDC) motor and has been designed with EMI filter for operation at standard supply voltages (90–240 Vac). FalconEye is using the UL-certified FSBB15CH60 smart-power-module from Fairchild Semiconductor. This is a complete three-phase IGBT inverter in which the gate control and the protective circuit are already integrated for three phase AC motors in the power range of 500 W. The Freescale 56F8013 digital signal controller (DSC) demo board used in FalconEye is suitable for demonstration purposes as well as for the development of applications. The host computer can be connected via a RS232 interface. During software development a JTAG pod connects the JTAG port of the DSC to the parallel interface of the PC. The built in galvanic isolation “Avago Technologies” means that the development engineer can test his algorithms without any problem even if the target application doesn’t include galvanic isolation due to cost reasons. The board contains an efficient switched mode power supply in which the FSQ321 from Fairchild provides the supply voltage for the logic: from 300V input voltage (rectified mains), several galvanically isolated voltages are generated.
The size of the board is 26,5 cm x 17,5 cm incl. 300 V Motor Brushless DC.
