The AMD DB780E Development Kit incorporates all the essentials for embedded development on AMD´s socket AM2 or AM3 processors into a ready-to-go development kit. This kit pairs the Sage Embedded Development Kit (EDK) and Sage SmartProbe along with the AMD AM2+ DB780E Development Board.
The AMD DB780E (Mahogany) development board is designed to accommodate all AMD Socket AM2 and Socket AM3 processors. The AMD embedded processors in this group range from 8 W to 65 W with 1 to 4 cores and 1.0 to 2.8 GHz clocks. These parts are selected for longevity support from AMD. The AMD DB780E supports up to 4 DDR2 unbuffered DIMM memory modules with ECC capability. In addition, the DB780E has the AMD 780E chipset with integrated side port graphics memory. The AMD DB780E ships with an AMD Athlon™ X2 Dual-Core processor, Model 4200+: 2.2 GHz clock, 35 W TDP and 2 x 1 GB DIMM memory modules installed plus support for JTAG In-Circuit Emulation (ICE).
The Sage EDK software is an Eclipse based integrated development environment (IDE) optimized for use with AMD processors and chipsets. The Sage EDK encompasses the entire development process, including editing, building and debugging, in a streamlined graphical user interface that can operate standalone or in conjunction with SmartProbe by Sage for maximum debug efficiency and confidence. In addition, the Sage EDK includes an array of sample application and source code building blocks. The EDK host software runs on Windows® operating systems.
SmartProbe provides the developer with a comprehensive hardware interface for controlling the system under development with zero system overhead. SmartProbe endows the software developer with the power to comprehensively and efficiently evaluate and/or manipulate the inner workings of the processor, chipset and peripherals. The probe works well in standalone environments, such as GDB, EMACS and VIM, but provides maximum benefit when used in conjunction with the Sage EDK.
