TQMa32F – a powerful combination of FPGA with Cortex M3/M4

With the new TQMa32F, TQ has created a solution building block based on a powerful combination of a Cyclon 4E FPGA and a CortexM3/M4 CPU. The module is an excellent core for applications in safety-, measurement-, and control-related fields due to its variety of interfaces, very small module size, and low power consumption. TQMa32F is particularly suited for regulatory use in power electronics and for signal-processing tasks with high real-time requirements.

Solution building blocks allow hard-won expertise to be reused in new projects in a simple manner. This saves both time and money. The TQMa32F is a building block with uses in a large number of applications. The soldering process now registered for a patent permits the module to be soldered in perpendicular to the PC board. Perpendicular installation requires very little room and saves PC board space. If a simple switch is what´s needed, a 164 pin PCIe connector can be used to plug in the component instead of direct soldering.

Two CPU variations are used along with a scalable Cyclon 4E FPGA with up to 22000 logic elements. It is possible to choose between a Cortex M3 and Cortex M4 with 168 MHz each depending on requirements for functionality and power. These different options help the customer find a solution with the right price and functions for every challenge.

The module provides an extensive periphery. Communication with the outside world is possible through 10/100Mbit fast Ethernet, USB OTG full speed controller, four UARTs, two CAN controllers for CAN 2.0B, and even a High-Speed Debug-Interface. Other functional units can be linked into the system internally using SPI, I²S, I2C, ADCs, PWMs, and a parallel address/data bus.

A wide-range input of 12 - 48V DC guarantees the module´s power supply. 3.3 V with up to one Watt can be drawn from the TQMa32F to supply external components.

The TGMa32F includes SRAM and Flash inside the processor as well as up to 4MByte of serial Flash and an EEPROM with 256 kbit. All externally usable FPGA and processor signals are assembled on the module interface. The board impresses with its tiny size of only 30mm x 92mm. Space-saving designs can be achieved by soldering the module directly onto the motherboard. The development process took into account long-term availability of components and high reliability.
