Micrium uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III Real Time Operating Systems Bundled with Freescale Software Development Kit for Kinetis MCUs

Micrium´s strong installed ARM base complements Freescale´s MQX RTOS offering; Only commercial RTOS selected

Weston, FLORIDA - September 9, 2014 - Micrium, the premier RTOS provider for embedded systems, today announced that its uC/OS-II® and uC/OS-III® real time operating systems are bundled into Freescale® Semiconductor´s new software development kit (SDK) for Kinetis® MCUs. The only commercial RTOSes selected, uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III are ideally suited for the ARM-based Kinetis platform due to their volume of implementations in a wide range of ARM-based devices.

"Micrium has a proven track record in ARM-based devices and safety certifications making it an ideal partner for use in avionics, medical and industrial control applications," said Michael Norman, Freescale´s manager of Kinetis Enablement. "Bundling Micrium´s RTOS into the Kinetis SDK complements our own MQX RTOS, making the Kinetis platform truly flexible and able to meet the market requirements of a wide array of end-user devices."

The uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III kernels are bundled into the Kinetis SDK for customer evaluation to facilitate product development. uC/OS-III supports unlimited application tasks and is a highly portable, ROMable, scalable, preemptive, real-time, deterministic, multitasking kernel for microprocessors, microcontrollers and DSPs. Available extensions provide memory protection, greater application stability and safety, and space and time management; enabling cost-effective certification of complex systems. The bundled kernel will be provided for evaluation purposes only, if used to design a commercial product, a license must be obtained from Micrium.

"uC/OS-II and uC/OS-III remain the most widely adopted commercial kernels in the industry," said Jean Labrosse, CEO of Micrium. "They are ideal for the Kinetis platform having been proven on a wide range of ARM-based devices and uC/OS-II´s certifications make it a strong option for safety-critical applications. Both kernels offer unprecedented ease of use, and are delivered with complete 100% ANSI C source code and in-depth documentation to support rapid product lifecycles."
