ARM9™ processor-based System Level Integration: Expanding the Limits Atmel’s leading-edge microcontroller standard products, ASSPs and ARM9 processor-based ASICs are based on the ARM926EJ-S™ and ARM920T™ cores. The standard products comprise: SAM9261 based on the ARM926EJ-S core: - 160 Kbytes SRAM, 32 Kbytes ROM
- Memory Controller with support for SDRAM, Static Memory, SmartMedia and NAND Flash, CompactFlash
- Bus Matrix and Multiple DMA Channels to take maximum advantage of the high internal bus throughput
- LCD Controller
- USB 2.0 Full Speed Host and Device ports
- Multimedia Card Interface, MMC and SD Memory Card-compliant
- Fully-featured System, Reset, Shut-down and Power Management Controllers for optimal operation under all conditions
- Rich set of system and application peripherals for enhanced performance
RM9200 based on the ARM920T core: 16 Kbytes SRAM, 128 Kbytes ROM - Memory Controller with support for SDRAM, Static Memory, Burst Flash, Compact Flash and SmartMedia Ethernet MAC 10/100 with integrated FIFO and dedicated DMA channels USB 1.1 Host and Device ports - Multimedia Card Interface, MMC and SD Memory Card-compliant Rich set of system peripherals for enhanced performance Advanced power management controller to optimize power consumption under all operational conditions. In addition: The AT76C series of Multimedia ICs includes ASSPs for IEEE 802.11b (Wireless LAN) networks, Bluetooth? devices, digital cameras and wireless VoIP products. These high-performance products are aimed at advanced applications that require maximum functionality at minimum power consumption on the smallest possible die size. These include: - Highly secure point-of-sale terminals (the RM9200 is regarded by a prominent client as best-in-class for secure payment terminals)
- High-bandwidth networking including industrial internet networking
- Medical applications - High-specification application host processors for GPS-based navigation systems
- Biometric-based systems such as fingerprint analysis. They can be used in conjunction with Atmel’s market-leading Finger Chip sensor.
Atmel is able to re-use the modular building blocks that constitute its ARM9 processor-based standard products and ASSPs to develop customer-specific products (ASICs) for demanding high-performance applications. The result is a dedicated high-performance system-on-chip developed in an extremely short timescale with minimal risk. The AT92RM9200 or AT91SAM9261 can be used as an ASIC development platform to enable software development to proceed in parallel to hardware development, and provide hardware and software co-verification. A full set of software development tools is available, including third-party operating systems, compilers, debuggers and in-circuit emulators. |
